In this presentation, Prof. Marti DeLiema, Ph.D. (University of Minnesota) and Marty Fleischhacker (Dept. of Commerce) will share the latest trends in scams and fraud, including popular methods of money transfer and the advanced technologies and persuasion tactics that scammers use to trick consumers. The presenters will discuss research highlighting fraud risk factors in older adulthood, including declining financial capacity and social isolation. The presenters will cover best practices to detect and respond to suspicious activity and suspicious behavior in older adults, and will provide important information about the Safe Senior Financial Protection Act. Attendees will learn how financial advisors can work collaboratively with the Dept. of Commerce to stop the loss of funds from clients' accounts.
